Join TEAL Manitoba for a full-day webinar focused on intentional literacy and assessment for multilingual (EAL) learners. Explore practical strategies—from storytelling and translanguaging to AI-supported teaching—that you can apply right away to strengthen student learning.
Dr. Katie Brubacher will explore how reading and narrative writing can be reimagined in K–12 classrooms through translanguaging, laughter, and culturally responsive practice. Consider how to use multilingual texts to deepen comprehension and design writing opportunities that build identity, belonging, and engagement.
Dr. Soroush Sabbaghan will explore how generative AI is reshaping language learning and what this means for teaching. Consider how to use AI as a learning partner while strengthening core practices and supporting students to build language, judgment, and agency—while addressing challenges such as over-reliance, accuracy, and equity.

Dr. Katie Brubacher
Dr. Katie Brubacher is an Assistant Professor and former elementary EAL teacher who has spent nearly two decades working alongside multilingual learners in K–12 schools. Her work focuses on multilingual students and the powerful role of language, literacy, belonging, and well-being in school. Drawing on classroom experience and research, Katie helps educators recognize and build on students’ full linguistic repertoires so learners can participate, connect, and grow as literacy learners.

Dr. Soroush Sabbaghan
Dr. Soroush Sabbaghan is an Associate Professor, Educational Leader in Residence for Generative AI, and founder of Smartie. He works with educators across K–12 and post-secondary settings to explore practical and thoughtful ways AI can support teaching, language, and literacy learning. Grounded in teacher judgment, ethics, equity, and care, Soroush shares classroom-ready approaches that help educators use AI with confidence, purpose, and a clear focus on student learning.
